Bud and his gang first encountering the Bat Boy durring "Christian Charity"
The fun challenge of Bud was balancing a sense of personal stake with the fact that he stands as the main heel of the story. Bud’s struggles are portrayed as jokes throughout the narrative, but they’re real to him and have real-world counterparts. Doing research into the old mining towns of Appalachia allowed me to straddle the line of simulacrum and exaggeration.

When I wasn’t playing Bud I donned the coat and slacks of every unnamed doctor in the play, allowing me to assist in the birth of the Bat Boy in the penultimate scene of the show.
